Geocaching in Wadena

Jo and I went to a MN Geocaching Breakfast Buddies event in Park Rapids at the Logging Camp on the Rapid River. Afterwards we went on a bike caching trip to Wadena, MN. We had a great time.

The Logging Camp in the 1960's.

Here are the bikes. Check out the cool trike.

Here are the riders/cachers (minus Jo)

Roy Lake Choke Cherry Jelly.

After picking choke cherries at the lake it was time to do something with them. So Jo made Jelly and Syrup.

Here are some that are not quite ripe. They will add a bit of tartness to the batch.

The only part I dislike is the cleaning. We took turns on this job.

I forgot to get a photo of the mashing.

Here is the juice cooking.

Cooling off on the rack.

Here is a batch of Raspberry Jam that Jo made with raspberries from the farm in Langdon. I think Jakob picked them. Looks tasty!

Nice label.

Time for some toast.

Fertile Geocache

This is August's "Where is the geocache?". The location is Fertile Minnesota by the fairgrounds.

It's right in this picture.

Check out this container.

It's a pretty good hide. It's a piece of bark that hangs on the tree and looks like it is just part of the bark. Tricky, tricky!! It was a quick find.

Chokecherries

We had a very short visit to the lake this past weekend and had time to mow the grass and pick some chokecherries.

Some sort of ripe ones.

These are ripe.

Picking quick before the bears show up.

Need longer arms.

I love the forest roads of Clearwater County.

More ripe ones.
We picked enough to make a batch of jelly and a batch of syrup.

Tomatoes

We had a week of hot weather and the tomatoes have been turning red. It's about time! It's been a strange summer for the garden. Check out some of the goofy looking ones.

This batch got made into chile base.

Moms New Landscaping

Mom had some landscaping done at her house. I'll have to find some before pictures to post.

Duluth Wedding

We took a trip to Duluth for Aaron Halda and Kristin Bro's wedding. It was on August 14th. It was a nice outdoor wedding that overlooked Duluth. Not too hot and not too cold.

We Do!!!!!

I liked the wedding cupcakes.

Splash Park

After geocaching on August 12th, Hayden and I met up with Reese and Jo at the Elks Splash Park. Lot's of fun for the little guy. Grand Forks has 2 splash parks. They are safer than the traditional kiddie pools. No suction drains or lifejackets to worry about. It was about 98 degrees out so it was nice to have a place to cool down.

Lot's of fun.

Happy boy!!

Time to cool off.
