Memorial Day Weekend.

Went to the lake for the weekend. Mowed the yard and planted some grass. Managed to get some caching done on Saturday when we made a trip into Bemidji.

Don't let your guard down got taken down by a bear.

Bite marks like the bears left on my humming bird feeders a couple of years ago.

While I was putting the cache back together and signing the log there was a loud noise coming from behind a nearby hill. I made a bit of noise and decided that it was time to head back to the truck.

We made our way to Bemidji to pick up some grass seed and find a cache.

Minnesota State Parks History Challenge

Was at Roy Lake opening up the cabin for the season. It was also the kick off of the Minnesota State parks History Challenge. As soon as the challenge cords were posted we headed off to Itasca State Park. What I thought would be a nice short park visit turned into a 3+ hour 5 stage geocache adventure.

Itasca is my favorite park and I never get tired of seeing the sites. This cache brings you to many interesting areas of the park. Notyet did a great job on this cache. I was surprised (and happy) to get the first to find in this popular park.

After this adventure we headed to Bemidji to get some plumbing supplies. Of course we managed to do some caching on the way. We also looked at some docks.

Ended up being a long (but fun) day.

That's a big loon!! (found it between stage 1 and 2) This would make an interesting cache container.

May Day Ice Out.

I've received news that the ice is out at Roy Lake. It went out on May 1. The earliest that I've seen is on April 15 and the latest would be the the first couple of weeks in May.

Here are some Minnesota Ice Links:

Geocache Logo

I have been working on a geocaching logo to use on my card.

Here are the prototypes

Slacking on the posts!

I've been slacking on posting to my blog the past few months. So today I tried to catch up. It's been a busy few months and I'm getting ready for lake season. Jo and I went over to the lake cabin a while back. Most of the snow was gone. The next day they got 18 inches. A couple of weeks ago they got another 12 inches. So far in April the area around the lake has received about 42-50 inches of snow! A record for April. They have been talking about snow this weekend. I'm ready for summer!!!!!

Darn woodpeckers have been at it again!
Down by the old lodge site. The foundations are the original cabins that were there in the 1930's.
Down by the old lodge site. Must be adding a couple of guest cabins.
